Transform your business with AI in D365

Artificial Intelligence

26 Nov 2024 | Terry Bloom

Technology like AI has the potential to transform your business, but many are still struggling to understand the technology and to identify how it can be used streamline operations.

Microsoft Copilot enables several types of AI in Dynamics 365, these include Generative AI and Autonomous Agents.

Generative AI is designed to create new content or data based on patterns and inputs it has learned from existing data. This can include generating text, images, music, etc.

In Dynamics 365, generative AI can be used to create personalized content for marketing campaigns, generate reports, or even draft responses for customer service interactions. It helps in automating content creation and enhancing productivity by providing creative outputs.

Autonomous Agents are designed to perform tasks independently, making decisions and taking actions based on predefined rules and AI-driven insights. They can handle complex workflows and processes Whilst still allowing human intervention.

Autonomous agents can automate routine tasks, manage workflows, and provide intelligent recommendations. Microsoft recently announced ten new autonomous agents for Dynamics 365 as well as enhancements to Copilot Studio to facilitate creating your own agents.

The Sales Order Agent in Business Central (currently in preview) monitors a predefined email to pick up customer orders and manage the order lifecycle. It will draft a sales quote for approval, check inventory levels, forward the quote to the customer and convert the order into a sales order.

Both of these AI technologies are powerful tools within Dynamics 365, each serving distinct but complementary roles to drive business innovation and efficiency.

Key Take Aways:

  • Creation vs. Action: Generative AI focuses on creating new content, while autonomous agents focus on performing tasks and making decisions.
  • Human Interaction: Generative AI often requires human input to guide the creation process, whereas autonomous agents operate more independently whilst still allowing for human intervention and approval.
  • Different Use Cases: Generative AI is ideal for content creation and enhancing creativity, while autonomous agents are suited for automating operational tasks and improving efficiency.
